The 148th edition of the British Open Championship was held for the second time at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Country Antrim, Northern Ireland and was won by Shane Lowry with a -15 under par. This was Lowry's first major win. Lowry shot a 67, 67, 63 and a final round score of 72 to finish six strokes better than runner-up Tommy Fleetwood. Tony Finau came in third at -7 and Lee Westwood and Brooks Koepka tied for fourth at -6 under par overall. Notably Tiger Woods and Ireland native and tournament favorite Rory McIlroy failed to make the day 2 cut.
